Great post Alexandra! I hit on a similar theme in a short post you might appreciate, Braiding AI, where I argue to put AI in human loops rather than vice versa: https://xolotl.org/braiding-ai/

Once again, I have to agree with you. I think ‘hype’ is a very apt description of what we are currently hearing, seeing, reading and experiencing with regard to GenAI.

This hype(r)focus is causing us to lose s(A)Ight of the fact that it is possible to organise really good learning experiences without GenAI, and that is because there is one aspect that GenAI cannot replace: people and their relationships.

Despite the reviews and meta-analyses that have recently already been conducted on teaching and learning with GenAI, there is still much to explore in terms of teaching and learning without GenAI.

That doesn't mean that educators should completely reject GenAI, but I think it's important to remember that the “art” in ARTificial intelligence does not stand for the art that is teaching and learning.
